The Beast and the Whore

Ausbund, 111

Lord, the whole world has risen up against us! The princes of the world have counselled together to destroy us. Because we will take no part in their wickedness they leave us nowhere in peace.

They hunt us down like deer. They take our earthly things, our children, and our wives from us, and desire to take our lives as well. They tell us if only we would fall down and worship the beast, everything would be all right.

But that we cannot do!

Far better it is to lose our lives and things—knowing that in God get everything back a hundredfold—than to lose our souls by turning away from him!

How does one worship the beast? It is very easy. All you have to do is follow the crowd. If you go ahead and do what everyone tells you, mark my words, the mark of the beast is already stamped on you! Your lie already with the great Babylonian whore!

The beast and the whore work closely together. They are man and wife, and together rule the world. The peace they maintain is from Satan, the great red dragon himself.

Multitudes, great multitudes, worship the beast and blaspheme God. But only a very small number, a little flock with God’s seal in their foreheads, has made provision to escape horrendous judgement to come.

Babylon will fall! Great calamity will fall on her at once, and all that carry the mark of the beast will gobble their tongues in pain. Even death, no matter how much they wish it, will escape them. Then the great whore, for drinking the blood of the saints, and all that took part in her atrocities, will drop, shrieking and clawing, into the lake of fire.

Let us who have chosen Christ not look back! Having put our hands to the plough, let us go on with him. Let us remember Lot’s wife! Our Lord will feed us with his Holy Spirit. We are the apple of his eye. We serve him not from compulsion, but on the free impulse of love. We have chosen to let go of all created things for his sake. Oh Lord, do what you want with us forever!
